Abstract

Early phase pharmaceutical research compounds must be fully characterized in order to have confidence in any testing results. Traditional methods such as HPLC/MS do not give any indication of counterion presence or identity for many common counterions such as trifluoroacetate, acetate, or succinate. Herein, we describe a combined approach of ion chromatography and quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy in order to identify and quantify counterions in research samples of limited quantity. Forty-two research samples were analyzed and compared for trifluoroacetate, acetate, and succinate salts. Copyright © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
