Abstract

We report our findings into the synthesis of α-branched
ketone products by the alkylation of ketones using methanol. Pleasingly we have found that methanol alkylation could be observed at 65 °C,17 indicating that methanol dehydrogenation can be achieved under these mild oxidative conditions, and this represents a convenient method for the use of methanol as a renewable C1-synthetic building block.
