Abstract

細菌の細胞膜を覆いつくす細胞壁（またはペプチドグリカン）は、それ自体、菌体と同じ形をしており、細胞増殖と形態形成に必要である。ペプチドグリカンは、時間・空間的に制御されたペプチドグリカン合成酵素と分解酵素がバランスよく働くことにより、形成される。近年、これらの酵素活性制御に細胞骨格因子が関与していることがわかってきたが、その分子機構はほとんど明らかにされていない。このミニレビューでは、細菌の形態形成におけるペプチドグリカン合成・分解とその制御機構についての最近の研究を広く簡潔に紹介する。
