Abstract

This is a video of the symposium "2016 Novartis Open Framework Symposium: Role of Academia-Industry Partnerships in Fostering Innovation" discussion that took place at NIBR on December 9, 2016. The event was open to the public.

The Novartis Open Framework symposia are designed to stimulate discussions within the Boston community about the academia- industry interface, and how these interactions could be optimized in order to advance science and impact health.

This session focused on the Role of Academia-Industry Partnerships in Fostering Innovation.

Speakers:
Jay Bradner, President of the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research
Robert G. Urban, Global Head, Johnson & Johnson Innovation
Randy King, Harry C. McKenzie Professor of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School

Moderator:
Ann Taylor, Head of Program Office and Cardiovascular Medicine, Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research

The speakers drew upon their own experiences in academia-industry partnerships to highlight how these interactions can promote scientific breakthroughs. The presentations were followed by a panel discussion, exploring the pros and cons of different partnerships, and considering novel options.

At this point, there are no plans to use this in a formal article, but I have requests from academic partners to view the video. It is posted on NIBR Tube.
