Caleydo Entourage: analyzing experimental data across multiple pathways

Wassermann, Anne, Borowsky, Mark, Partl, Christian, Lex, Alexander, Streit, Marc, Pfister, Hanspeter and Schmalstieg, Dieter (2016) Caleydo Entourage: analyzing experimental data across multiple pathways. IEEE Trans Vis Comput Graph. , 19 (12). pp. 2536-2545. ISSN 1077-2626

Abstract

Summary: Caleydo Entourage is a visual analysis tool for the
exploration of biological pathways, their relationships to other
pathways, and associated experimental data. In the visualization we
show one focus pathways in full detail, while multiple related pathways
are condensed to contextually relevant subsets. The experimental
data can be mapped directly onto the pathways. However, to
accommodate large and multiple datasets we make use of interactive
path extraction. The extracted paths are then shown juxtaposed with
experimental data, which allows users to compare samples, groups,
and datasets and to reason about downstream effects. To asses
the significance of patterns identified in the visualization, we provide
methods to interactively run various statistical tests.

Availability and Implementation: Caleydo is open source (BSD
license) and runs on Windows, MacOSX and Linux as a Java
application. Binaries, source code, documentation and instructional
videos can be obtained at http://entourage.caleydo.org/.
